What is 2D Imager Barcode and How does it work?

Laser-based barcode scanners have been around for decades and due to lots of moving parts, they are sometimes considered as fragile. After years of product and technology development, 2D imagers are now considered as widely used barcode readers. 2D imagers can scan virtually every barcode symbology such as QR Code Data Matrix, and PDF417, which other scanners can't read.

What is 2D Imager?

A 2D Imager is a barcode reader which works as a digital scanner and is capable of reading two-dimensional (2D) barcodes. The 2D imager used to scan for both 1 dimensional and 2-dimensional barcodes from a paper, synthetic media, and electronic screens. 2D imagers are the most powerful barcode scanners and offer additional functionality over common barcode scanners.

How 2D Imager works?

2D Imager barcode scanner captures images as well as scan barcodes, processes it and decodes the barcode to extract all the details from the code, it’s an almost-instant process. 2D Imager uses advanced optics similar to what you would see in a digital camera and image processing techniques to capture and decode the barcode's information. Imager can read the barcode at any angle, which makes scanning faster and easier.  It can read multiple barcodes in one pass which makes 2D imagers more efficient. 2D Imager barcode decoding ability is so powerful that it allows users to successfully collect info from heavily damaged barcodes.

Some 2D Imager barcode scanners also come equipped with parse driver's license barcodes, so you can collect the information you need in the order you require. Which will be great for repetitive data entry tasks, such as customer loyalty programs or card applications.

2D Imager barcode scanners can be offered in corded and cordless form factors or can be connected to iOS/Android smartphones and tablets. Which makes it the perfect solution for anyone looking to future proof their scanning.

If you look beyond the US, the scale of this practice is massive. There has been a flood of knock offs and cloned products in the market. There is no OEM product left in the market these days whose imitation version is not found.  Counterfeiters don’t even spare replacement parts for your printer like printheads. Once printheads are worn out or damaged, they can affect the printing quality, and barcodes can be unreadable. Printheads also need proper maintenance like other parts like ribbon. So, it is always recommended to verify OEM printheads before buying. Your direct thermal printer cannot work correctly without having a quality printhead. A damaged printh...
